Introducing Dancer, Choreographer and Teacher Kat Geale
When did you start dancing?
I started ballet and tap in 2001 when I was three, and began teaching jazz, tap, and contemporary independently in 2016.
What is your favourite thing about dance?
My favourite part of dance is planning new projects. I get really excited for every project/routine, and will spend hours choosing and cutting music, creating and plotting formations, and creating movement to suit the dancers.
What do you do in your spare time?
Between teaching and uni, I don’t have much spare time. But when I do, I love visiting new brunch cafes with my sisters and friends, or finding a new TV series to binge watch.
Do you prefer to dance solo or in a group?
I definetly prefer dancing as a group and choreographing for a group. There is such a strong energy that you can only get from being part of a group.
What are you excited about when you begin teaching Classroom Dance in a High School?
I’m most excited to share my knowledge of creating movement/choreography when I begin teaching classroom dance in High Schools. Each person has so much to offer creatively whether they know it or not, and I’m looking forward to helping these students release their inner artist.
