What do you love about Music?

I love how music can completely determine the atmosphere around it. I’ve been paying more attention to this recently, and have found it to be very intriguing. Similar to how a comedian reads a room to judge how well their joke went. It’s strange to me how a room can seemingly feel as if everyone is experiencing the same emotions but knowing full well that the experience is unique to each individual.

The best thing about working in a band?

The best thing about working in a band is the result of everybody’s personal musical experiences combining to make one work. It can never be duplicated on any other day, with any other combination. This is what makes any collaboration exciting to me. Knowing that what’s about to be created together will be unique.

What do you love to do in your spare time?

I love to practice! There’s always new things to discover and learn. I find that giving my brain a good exercise keeps me inspired and also fuels my teaching. I’ve also been learning languages, which I’ve discovered is remarkably similar to learning music.

What advice do you have for aspiring musicians?

Try not to compare yourself to other musicians. Music is not a ‘level up’ situation, it’s a journey and there will always be others further down the road, or on seperate paths. Everyone’s more or less going to the same destination so work together!
