Mercy, mercy, mercy

Composer – Joe Zawinul

I Want you back

Written by writing team 'The corporation' for Motown records, the song was made a hit by Jackson 5.

Our arrangement we adapted from a version by American band Lake Street Dive.

The students worked with different arranging concepts in this song to come up with the breakdown section and an ending

Lead by Caitlin Kennedy.

Easy

Song by the Commodores

We elected to keep basically the same arrangement and change the key to fit Georgia Chambers on the lead.

Also featuring guitarist Nick McDonald.

Rock with you

Written by Rod Temperton and made famous by Michael Jackson.

Georgia Tonkin on the lead chose this song and the arrangement was created by group director Grace Cockburn.

The vocalists and some of the band were fairly new to the song and it proved quite a challenge to learn due to it's interesting chords and rhythmic patterns.

The Camptown Races & Yankee Doodle

This arrangement by Darren Lloyd is a mashup between a minstrel song (Camptown Races) and a popular song (Yankee Doodle) in which they both derive from the origins of America. Yankee Doodle came from the 18th century before the Seven Years’ War and the American Revolution. Camptown Races quickly became a popular song in the 19th century. It’s so popular, many cartoon shows like ‘Looney Tunes’ use it to convey their story in one of their episodes.

The Rock Band is covering a range of material from Metallica to Red Hot Chili Peppers to Tool. This performance sees the band covering “R U Mine?”, by Indie rock sensation Arctic Monkeys.

String Ensemble

Conductor: Ben Adkins

Sneaking Suspicion

Composer: Doug Spata

Originally performed using the "pizzicato" technique, Spata's playful melodies echo one another in a "cartoon tiptoe" style. Featuring call-and-response segments that demonstrate rhythmic precision, ensemble balance, and a strong sense of phrasing, this piece evokes a mischievous atmosphere with child-like nostalgia. Accompanied by Ben Adkins on piano.

Stringers

Conductor: Mel Lathouras

Lovely

Composer: Billie Eilish and Khalid

Arranger: Mark Brymer

Stringers is a vibrant vocal ensemble made up of Grade 11 string players. Their string ensemble clashed with our Singers rehearsal, so we made a group especially for them. This arrangement of an indie pop classic has gospel undertones, which our singers worked hard to convey.
